KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — University of Malaya (UM) students are the latest beneficiaries of the YTL Foundation “Learn from Home” initiative after they had successfully provided free mobile data and online learning materials to the government school students during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Following the measures taken by the university to activate full online Teaching and Learning mode from April 27 onwards, UM students are required to attend their classes online from home.
The University of Malaya Student Council (KMUM) had personally contacted YTL Foundation regarding the initiative following the university’s temporary closure.
Through the initiative, UM students are granted 40GB of data through the Yes 4G prepaid SIM cards to help with the process of online learning.
With the lack of access to high-speed internet and expensive subscription costs as the main challenges in ensuring a smooth online learning experience, the initiative can greatly alleviate these challenges.
Amira Aqilah, 22, is one of the students who successfully received her free sim card after applying through the YTL Foundation website.
“I believe this initiative could be very helpful for me to complete my assignments and attend online lectures,” said Amira.
The second-year History student said that the approach is incredibly helpful for those who might face financial difficulties.
“This initiative could ease the students who are overwhelmed with financial difficulties and I’m beyond thankful for this opportunity,” she said.
Students and university staffs are entitled to receive the sim card by applying directly on their website, available until August 31 at https://ytlfoundation.org/learnfromhomeuni/
