PETALING JAYA: Ministry of Health announced on May 11th that only 20 persons are allowed to gather for upcoming festivals like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Gawai and Pesta Kaamatan in the same state while maintaining social distancing.

Despite this, the number of attendees is dependent on the size of the venue, added Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“The most important thing is to follow the Health Ministry guidelines, which is to maintain social distancing,” announced Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

A meeting in a cramped apartment is prohibited because it would be impossible to maintain social distancing.

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah encouraged Malaysians to be cautious to prevent virus infection especially towards the high-risk group (elderlies and children).

On May 10th, PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stressed the prohibition of mass movement across state borders for any upcoming festival to reduce the possibility of the virus spreading.

Festivals in Malaysia are usually celebrated at a large scale hence the order placed is a huge step to lessen the number of cases.

Although the Prime Minister assured that social distancing during festivals is crucial to contain the virus from spreading, Malaysians are still allowed to visit family members in the same state.

Hence, all Malaysians are strictly ordered to follow the guidelines and SOP ordained by the Ministry of Health.
